Terms of Use

The terms you accept by using Smart Things.

Last updated 24 August 2026

The licence

Smart Things is licensed, not sold, to you for personal, non-commercial use on Apple devices you own or control, under Apple's Licensed Application End User Licence Agreement, which applies in addition to these terms. You may not resell, redistribute or reverse engineer the app except where law allows it regardless of agreement.

What the app is

Smart Things is a controller for accessories you already own. It works through Apple's HomeKit and through your televisions' own network interfaces. It does not provide the accessories, the network or the services behind them, and it cannot work when those are unavailable.

What it is not

The app is not a security or life-safety system. Do not rely on it for anything where failure would cause harm or loss — locks, alarms, smoke and leak detection, heating, medical equipment. Notifications, readings and controls depend on your accessories, your network and Apple's services, all of which can fail or be delayed. Keep a physical means of operating anything that matters.

Your responsibilities

Subscriptions

Some features may require a paid subscription. Purchases, renewals, refunds and cancellation are handled entirely by Apple through your App Store account, under Apple's terms. A subscription renews automatically unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the period ends; you can cancel in your App Store account settings. Where a free trial is offered, an unused portion is forfeited if you buy a subscription during it.

No warranty

The app is provided as it is, without warranty of any kind to the extent the law permits. We do not promise it will be uninterrupted, error free, or compatible with every accessory.

Limitation of liability

To the extent the law permits, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, or for loss arising from the failure of an accessory, a network or a third-party service. Nothing here limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited.

Trademarks

Apple, HomeKit and App Store are trademarks of Apple Inc. Fire TV is a trademark of Amazon. Roku, Samsung, LG and Android TV are trademarks of their respective owners. Smart Things is not affiliated with, endorsed by or connected to any of them, and names are used only to say which devices the app can control.

Changes

These terms may change with a future version of the app. The date at the top shows when they last did.
