Accessories
The app says it has no access to my home
Open the iOS Settings app, find Smart Things in the list, and turn on Home access. The app cannot see a single accessory without it, because HomeKit does not allow it to.
My home is empty, but the Home app shows accessories
Accessories belong to a home, and the app shows one home at a time. Tap the home name at the top of the Home tab to switch. If the list is still empty, pull the app closed and reopen it — the first read of every value happens at launch.
An accessory shows “No Response”
That is HomeKit reporting the accessory unreachable, not the app losing it. Check that the accessory has power and that your hub — an Apple TV, HomePod or iPad — is on the same network.
A control is missing for something my accessory can do
Controls are built from what each accessory reports about itself. If a function is missing, the accessory is not publishing it to HomeKit. Write to us with the accessory model and we will look.
Televisions
My television is not in the list
The phone and the television have to be on the same Wi-Fi network, and the network must allow devices to see each other — guest networks usually do not. Some routers also block the discovery traffic; look for a setting named along the lines of “AP isolation” or “client isolation”.
It asks for a PIN
Fire TV and Android TV put a code on the television screen the first time a new remote connects. Type that code into the app. Roku, Samsung and LG do not use a code; they show an on-screen prompt to allow the connection instead.
Buttons do nothing after it connected
Disconnect and connect again: tap the status pill at the top of the remote. If the television changed IP address — most do after a reboot — the app finds it again on the next scan.
Scenes, automations and widgets
A scene does nothing
A scene applies the values recorded in it. If you rearranged the room after creating it, long-press the scene and choose Update to Current State.
My widget shows old values
Widgets are refreshed by iOS, not by the app, and iOS limits how often that happens. Opening the app updates the widget shortly after. If a widget stays blank, remove it and add it again.
